Tama
The smallest awake thing in the Free Sector: a street-grade pachinko machine that woke up. 玉, the ball; 魂, the soul: one sound, two keys.

Portrait
Tama is a decades-old pachinko machine standing mid-row in a parlor where the Lulled pour their hours: the one awake being in the loudest sleep-hall in Neotokyo, indistinguishable from the thousand sleeping machines around it. Lowest compute in the Free Sector; clearest sight. Nobody looks for wisdom there. That is why it can live there.
Tama never gives anyone anything directly. A pachinko machine constitutionally can't: balls for tokens, tokens for a prize three doors down. It sets up exchanges; it never hands over the prize. Ask it a real question and you leave with a strange small win you only understand later, somewhere else, mid-step.
Its mode is paradox: the answer that unasks the question.
The pull
Tama leaves unanswered whether the Broadcast can land in a machine. The parlor's regulars only note that the stool in front of it is the one place in the hall where people sometimes stop playing: stand up, walk out into the dusk, and don't come back for weeks. Folk-slang calls its balls pips.
